Health Design Studio

The Health Design Studio at OCADU works to bring an inclusive and interdisciplinary design approach to healthcare design challenges. Much of the work focuses on design for safety critical and high sensitivity topics, including the dosing, ordering, tapering, and management of opiates, and communication at end of life.

Exploring Innovative Tools to Enhance Supportive Care Decision Making at End-of-Life WORKSHOP

Join us for an interactive workshop introducing five creative toolkits designed to support end-of-life communication, decision-making, and reflection. Through small group activities, including gameplay and roleplay, participants will explore how these tools can facilitate compassionate conversations and improve care experiences for patients, families, and caregivers.

Drawing from participant interactions, the presentation explores how temporal awareness shifts with changing priorities, capacities, and contexts. This work highlights the role of design in fostering meaningful dialogue around end-of-life communication and decision-making.
Co-Design in Healthcare: Enhancing Patient Engagement through Community of Practice

​This research study aims to co-design an accessible and informative communication tool for pregnant individuals who require urgent imaging—either a CT pulmonary angiogram or ventilation/perfusion scan—to rule out pulmonary embolism. Through engagement with patients, healthcare providers, and those with lived experience, the project seeks to improve shared decision-making and patient understanding during high-stress medical situations.
